Day 6 Coolgardie to Norseman (73 miles cycled)

Dermot set off early (as usual) and we met up at Widgiemoolta nearly 50 miles later. There was a good roadside restaurant, wifi etc There were also very reasonable rooms but it was too soon to stop. We asked if there were any vacancies and were told there was one room left at 80 aud . Its a popular stopover due to all the nearby mines.
Dermot carried on cycling and I met him every 10 to 20 k to see how he was and replenish his supplies. About 60 k before Norseman he’d had enough. It was very hot and the road was long and straight and monotonous. As there was nowhere safe to pull in for the night he took a lift to Norseman and I will drive him back to that spot in the morning to take up where he left off. We booked into a motel in Norseman ,
the cheapest so far and breakfast included!!!! A beer or two later
and off to the pub for food.It was very busy as the races were on. There was a slight hiccup as all the horses had been returned to Perth so they raced their children instead!!!!The ladies were even wearing their best hats for the day!!! Then they all went to the pub to celebrate the races!!!!  Life can seem strange at times!

    Hi there, all going to plan then. A very different life for a few weeks. Great you are doing you swims when possible. Dermot's legs holding out fine? Racing their children ? Bizarre!
    You doing lots of reading and meeting different folk ? Rufus still keeping company ? Yoyr girls and Rosie went into Chester last night You seen the Insta photos ? Looks like a great time. Love to you both. Anne xx

FLIES, FLIES AND MORE FLIES!!!! That was my impression of today! They were everywhere... in the camper, outside, banging off the windows.... huge biting flies! It was a boring cycling day with not a lot to see ( except flies!) The flat roads are now becoming hilly and the vegetation is changing to a bit more normal looking landscape. We would appear to have left camels behind ( not that we ever saw any) as the signs now only show kangaroos and wombats! We stayed the night at nundroo roadhouse ( bit of a dump) . A fly in the room kept us awake half the night!🦟🔫 Dick Faldo in action!!! ( spot the invisible club!)

Day 16 Nundroo to Penong (50 miles)

A reasonably early start as soon as it was light and off he shot in the cool early morning air. The wind is usually mostly non existent at that time of day so he makes good progress. Decided to call it a day at Penong and go swimming! Too tempting! Cactus Bay , Penong SA Risked the shark proof net and had a lovely swim! Staying  the night in a lovely campsite in Penong. T bone steaks for dinner!!! Visited the windmills museum and the local grocery store and bar. Ticked all boxes! The biggest windmill in Australia Now to bed!

Day 30 Goolgari to West Wyalong. (92 miles)

On the road by 7.30. A cool start but lots of gentle, gradual hills. The road surface was unbelieveably rough and Dermot’s wrists and bum are aching. The wind was ok at the start but then it became a headwind so not easy! Prettier scenery with lots of farmland today. A nice change from scrub. Long straight road......  Wonderful Silo Art in Weethalle NSW  There is actually a Silo Art Trail. Fantastic! This is our route and we are now roughly where the key is pointing. Less than 500 km to Bondi Beach now..... we can almost hear the waves!!! I am reading “Don’t stop me now” by Vassos Alexander, 26.2 tales of a runner’s obsession. It is beginning to inspire me so this morning I ran a mile non stop!!!!(knackered all day!!!) Dermot forgot to mention his Emu sighting yesterday . It ran along the verge beside him for a while then wandered off. That may or may not be of interest.  Stopping for lunch! Downtown West Wyalong
